Cut the prize money to 10%, make it a level wide tournament with one round and this would have been awesome.

I don't think they should make it a level-wide tournament at all. This is one of the unique and interesting things about this tournament, you get the chance to compete against different levels. A better idea would be to structure the tournaments in a 10- or 15-level range. I always fancy my chances against average teams that are 15 levels above me, so I'd find that really interesting.

Not sure exactly what is the “unique and interested things” of having 2 injured players by playing somebody that is 100 stars above us... All my guild (20 players) entered and directly left the tournament without playing when they saw their opponents.. None of us will play such tournament as none of us is interested in spending 96 heal kits to loose a game against a lvl 60 player.
And no interest at all in terms of reward as they come in the 2nd round (and you won’t get there if you re not lvl 58-60)..

It s great the developers try something new... but this tournament is not interesting at all.. and it doesn t motivate new players... Not also sure What is the benefit of giving 1,000 gold balls to somebody who has already all buildings upgraded and probably bought his all team, while there s many players below who are trying to catch-up...

As suggested by somebody else above, a level-wide tournament would be awesome.. (even if the rewards are much lower)...

Well I'm level 31 and am drawn against a level 52. I've tested the water with short bursts of one of my main strats and then switching to a losing strat and I, for one, fancy my chances. So it is definitely of interest to me. It's unique in the sense that we never get to have tournaments that include a range of levels (unless you count our own inguild competition). This is a really decent idea by the developers, however even I will admit that my chances of progression if I get consistently drawn against level 50+ are next to none. Therefore a 10 to 15 level spread seems about right for me. You'll get drawn against good players at times, of course, and you will lose. That's life. However there are so many ridiculously average players on this game that there will still be a chance to do well.

The point about injuries is a valid one, however I don't mind spending the heal kits. The thing that annoys me about injuries is that you lose the training points for the game.

I also agree with your point that a huge quantity of gold balls will likely go to someone who needs them less. Hence again, why not have massive tournaments but with a 10-level spread and more evenly distributed prizes? The top prize can still be pretty big to make it worth competing for.

To be frank, I haven't lost a tournament on my level for about 8 seasons now, and only then because I came up against one of 2 people on my level that can beat me (one of those only if I am offline). It's really boring. Having a level-spread competition running in tangent to a per level tournament would be much more interesting. Perhaps the injuries thing is something the developers can look at and loosen the parameters so they happen less frequently?

One thing I do agree with however is that you should be awarded prizes for winning any game at all.

I'll let you know how I get on against the lvl 52er. I'm currently giving myself a 15% to 20% chance of victory and I quite like the odds, given the difference in levels.

For me 15 levels means playing people double my current level, and while I have beaten teams at that grade, I suspect they are the bad ones.

This is actually a very good point. In our inguild competition, we have split the guild into three leagues based on level (initially, but with promotion and relegation at the end of each competition so the level difference widens with each season) and we use a handicap system, again based on level. What we decided right off the bat is to actually have a higher handicap per level in the bottom Division as the gap between levels is necessarily higher than later on the game. It is relatively difficult for a level 10 team to beat a level 20 team for example, due to the develoment of strategy towers mainly, but also all the other reasons. That said, a level 30 player can reasonably take out mid level 40s players on a regular basis. It happens all the time in the ranking games (and guild challenges). 20 levels is also very doable against average teams. Trust me there are a lot of very average teams on this game that are quite active so keep plugging away.

I understand your frustration of not having real opponent at your level, making it sometimes a bit boring.. I am in the same situation than you... I won my last 11 championships.. and haven’t lost a tournament for a while... The only other real opponents at my level are in my guild.. (hence we play 100 of friendlies between us and set-up an intra guild chanpionship to make it a bit more interesting.)

If we have a level-spread competition, I don’t see how a player who is 10 level below will have a chance against me (or you or any player who has a strong strat’..). Of course you can beat some average players who are 10+ levels above you (and I agree with your point, there are many average players.. I defeated a player who is 13 levels above mine this morning), but you won’t defeat the ones who have maxed the key skills of their teams and have a good strategy...

I would actually see 2 options that could make such big tournament interesting:
1/ A level-wide tournament as you compete with your peers... So everybody has a chance to win. But, it would actually be sequenced.. So the tournament starts with the low levels.. and let’s say the winner and finalist qualify to the tournament with the level + 1 players... etc... So actually you could continue the tournament for a while if you re good.. qualifying for the next round each time...

2/ A tournament without levels... Everybody gets exactly the same team for the tournament... Hence, the one who set-up the best strategy wins... Then everybody has a chance... (even somebody who just started the game, if he set-up a good strategy).

What do you think?

I will challenge you on a friendly in the next few minutes... I have quickly seen your team, and can say I have almost no chance to win as you are also maxed on all key skills (and I am 6 levels below you).

Ah so that was you playing me! I thought it was someone checking me out for a guild challenge or something. I caught the game in the second half and switched to my losing strat to confuse you a bit, but the losing strat didn't really take effect much before the last 10 minutes... I also had an afterthought that perhaps you were looking to join the Guild, so I'm glad we resolved the mystery - I was just about to send you an invite...

Yes I agree with you actually - you make excellent points. I also like both your suggestions for a tournament, although I suspect the second one would be more difficult to implement since, as you say, probably 70% of any good strategy is how you train your players.

As an aside, since a number of us joined the massive tournament and lost last night, I have now drawn a tournament on my level with my fellow guild mate who beats me more often than I beat him - I'd say he is no. 1 on our level. This means that after many seasons of not losing a tournament, it is now looking likely that I will lose 2 on the bounce! Karma coming back to bite me after mouthing off on here. That'll learn me!

There are a couple of guys in our guild who are not necessarily world beaters as such but are pretty decent that you may like to play to see how you get on. York's in particular could be a decent match up for you. May be fun to play him.

Best of luck to you and your guild!

Haha.. hope the same will not happen to me tonight as I am playing one of my dangerous guild mate in a tournament...
I confirm, your losing strat’ didn t take effect as you smashed me... hahaha
Your 205 stars guild mate also challenged me... which allowed me to train my kick-offs.. as this is mainly what I did for the whole game... lol

Indeed, I just challenged York’s.. He has a pretty good team/strat’ (but most of the players in your guild seem to be strong).

Same to you, best of luck to you and your guild!

Same topic, different slant: It's not actually much fun, if your a so called high level player, playing an opponent 30/40 levels below you. Also, there was a three day wait for the tournament to start - three days lost income from tournaments.

He real doesn't like you eh Monks? Must be hard work having to carry that massive chip on his shoulder all the time.

What a joke this "event" is. My 3rd game is against a Level 49 team and no disrespect but where is the incentive for him to play? He has won 2 rounds so far and hasn't even got a single Gold Ball for his efforts!

Level 60 coiners maxing bonus are going to win this one. What a joke!!!!!

Could at least reward all entrants that win 1 or 2 games in the same way as normal tournaments i.e. 1 Gold Ball for a first round win and so on. It's just a few electronic signals after all!!!

Bloody Mickey Mouse tournament this is.

Yeah so he gave me a call last night from the pub. He apologized for his behaviors and let me know that he has been upset since getting fired from his real life managing job of a local U12 team. I let him know I understood and that all is good. Now, he was a little drunk, obviously, but I'm hopeful that the sentiment he expressed sticks. It would be good for all the forum if he were able to stop distracting the topic in general.

As far as the tournament, there is a reason that most tournaments are only for your champ level, we are now seeing that clearly

It was a nice experiment and good to see the developers trying to freshen things up. Credit where it's due. But there isn't much of an incentive to participate for the teams outside the top 2 divisions.

It's been imagined and created by Mickey Mouse my friend. I won't be at all surprised if Mickey Mouse wins it. Me cynical? No
