How can it be that 466 ranked Carlsberg did guilds has come up against a guild with nearly double our 2.1 million fanbase and have been drawn up against 3.9million fanbase superrugby ranked 97 on the game . I thought GC's were based on fanbase or am I wrong?

It goes on average fan base per player as far as I've heard. Not on total fan base.

There's hardly a basis. A guild averaging 200k fans can be drawn against a team averaging 120k fans. It's very unfair on smaller guilds and very frustrating for the larger guilds that want tougher challenges.
