How exactly is match bonus calculated? Is it that the top players current salary the only determinant?

The maximum match bonus value is 50 times the highest salary wondered by your players (the salary needed to have 100% moral).

Thanks for your response PierrotLL, but as I am dismissing players, the match bonus is not going down, why is this?

Because what Pierrot is trying to say is it's 50 times the highest salary of any of your players (including morale at 100%), not 50 times the total. Thus unless you dismiss your highest earner, the bonus won't go down - it is that top player that counts, as you correctly surmised.
