So, I just finished second a championship. Either exactly the same points, wins and losses of the other team, only that I beat him! He is first only, my opinion, because the alphabetic order!!! The devs, clearly have no idea what are the rules of this game.

Could be based on tries scored as some championships do. Your best bet would be to log a support ticket to get a timely response
