It depends of how you want your players act.
You may want that all of your players go to the opponent goal when they attack, or at the opposite defenders can stay back.
You can focus you attack on field sides to pass over a central defense.
You can let your attackers in the opponent field even when you are defending to avoid tiring them with useless back and forth.
Sometimes I saw very strange strategies that score a lot. My advice is to try different configurations with friendly matches.
