Please explain to me (in detail if you please) why do I need 3 strategie buildings?

I have to admit I'm not confident that they actually apply the strategy buildings for away matches which is why the home side always seems to do so well... Maybe I'm wrong but when I've upgraded mine home match results have improved but not away matches...
