If I was to play a number 8 as a 6, will my number 8 not be quite as good as he was if he was playing his actual position? Im just wondering if I should sell my player or just play him in a different position to what he actually is??

It is not a problem for a player to play on a different position. Just pay attention to the player instructions that depends to his initial post.
Example, a 9 and a 10 have different default instructions. If you want a 9 plays as a 10, it's better to adjust his instructions.
